ASUS ROG Ally Steam Deck Competitor

ASUS ROG Ally Gets Official Price as Reviews Drop Online

Your favourite YouTubers and media have likely started uploading reviews of the new ASUS ROG Ally already. The US embargo dropped for the new handheld gaming device last night after the “official” reveal stream took place. Sadly, the South African embargo is still in place for this unit. I can confirm that we have a ROG Ally currently being tested on the site and will share content on this as soon as that embargo drops.

With that being said, the ASUS ROG Ally is now officially unveiled. The company shared specifics on the device’s price tag and release plans as media uploaded reviews for their units at the same time. We have already covered the ROG Ally in depth a few weeks back and those details haven’t changed. The only new content here to pay attention to is the price tag.

ASUS has officially priced the ROG Ally at $599 for the AMD Z1 model and $699 for the AMD Z1 Extreme model. The devices are expected to start shipping on 13 June in the United States. However, the cheaper $599 non-Extreme model won’t launch until a later date. ASUS is focusing on the Z1 Extreme model for now.

Early reviews have been mostly positive for the unit. The Verge says it is substantially more powerful than the Steam Deck but its battery life is just a horror story. Other reviewers also have similar complaints regarding the battery life. At the max, you’ll get 1.5 hours of life out of the ROG Ally when using performance mode.

ASUS ROG Ally South African Launch

ASUS has yet to announce its launch plans for the ROG Ally in South Africa. The handheld has been confirmed for a local launch “soon” after the US release but details are still slim. The company will confirm all of the specifics closer to its release window of Q3 2023. That is July this year.

Until then, you’ll have to just ponder what $699 might cost in Rands, add a little bit of import tax and duties to that, also be sure to convert the latest $19 to the Rand exchange rate too. You can cry a little if you want. I won’t judge you.

We will share the official South African ROG Ally launch plans and pricing as soon as we get them.
