ASUS has confirmed that the upcoming ROG Ally handheld gaming device will retail in South Africa for R15,999 for the AMD Z1 Extreme model. The South African release date for the ASUS ROG Ally is set for 15 June with pre-orders now open for local customers.
If you want to pre-order the handheld, you can head on over to the ASUS Store and place your order. Orders will start shipping on 15 June. ASUS has also partnered with Makro to sell the device in-store nationwide on 15 June. You can also pre-order from Makro starting today by visiting this link.
R15,999 is quite a good price for the ASUS ROG Ally in South Africa. Up to now, South Africans were able to purchase the lesser device, the Steam Deck but the local markup on the product is eye-watering.
Featuring an all-new purpose-built APU – AMD Ryzen Z1 series processor with RDNA 3 graphics, the ROG Ally is primed to deliver never-before-seen levels of handheld gaming performance. Gamers who enjoy lighter indie titles, or more graphically intensive AAA games, can do it all with the Ally. Making all this possible is also ROG’s Zero Gravity thermal system, which uses a dual-fan system with ultra-thin heatsink fins and high-friction heat pipes to ensure the Ally stays cool in any orientation.
Incredible Connection, for example, has the Steam Deck listed for R16,999. Keep in mind that the ROG Ally far surpasses the Steam Deck in performance and value thanks to its AMD Z1 Extreme chip and Windows 11 support.
If you’re looking to pick up an ASUS ROG Ally, you can pre-order it starting today in South Africa. We will have a full review up soon.
