Avatar 3 now has an official title and it’s called Avatar: Fire and Ash. The news was announced during the recent Disney D23 expo where director James Cameron unveiled the movie’s title and gave a brief overview of the movie’s synopsis. It’s currently slated to release in cinemas worldwide on 19 December 2025.
Cameron, along with stars Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, took the stage at D23 over the weekend to announce that Avatar 3 will officially be titled Avatar: Fire and Ash. Since the movie is still in early post-production, footage of the movie couldn’t be shared. However, Cameron did speak a bit about the movie’s central plot and what fans can expect from the next outing in the Avatar series.
“I can’t wait to show you what we’ve been creating for Avatar 3,” said Cameron during D23. “Everyday when I’m reviewing new shots when they’re coming in from the VFX folks, it’s like Christmas morning… It’s got really high emotional stakes, more than ever before.”
“The new film is not what you expect. But it’s definitely what you want,” said Cameron, closing the panel with that cryptic tease.
Some concept art for Avatar: Fire and Ash was also shown during the panel and shared online, showing a new, creepy Na’vi tribe that utilises the element of fire in some way. Beyond that, details are scarce on the plot and characters. It seems like the movie will once again take place on the planet of Pandora, though the enemy this time likely won’t be human but another Na’vi group.
