James Cameron has overtaken his previous masterpiece, Titanic with his latest movie, Avatar: The Way of Water. The film has surpassed Titanic’s third-highest-grossing spot at the box office after generating $2.2433 billion globally. Titanic, which is now the fourth-highest-grossing film of all time, generated $2.2428 during its box office run. James Cameron’s original Avatar film sits quite far ahead in first place after generating $2.92 billion. We then have Avengers: Endgame in second with $2.7 billion.
Avatar: The Way of Water was released in December and has been the talk of box-office success since. The film was in the making for over six years after it kicked off production back in 2017. However, James Cameron originally planned on making a sequel to the original 2006 Avatar before it was even released in cinemas.

Avatar: The Way of Water has set the bar for post-covid theatrical releases. It was the first major blockbuster to release after the pandemic and it saw millions of people run to the cinema to watch it. The film has slowly crept its way up the box office charts surpassing Spider-Man: No Way Home, Avengers: Infinity War, Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens and now Titanic.
At the moment, James Cameron hasn’t announced a home release for Avatar: The Way of Water. This means the only way to watch the film is to head to the movies. We’ll likely see it launch on Disney+ or other rental services in the coming months ahead. It seems Cameron wants to juice the film for as much box office revenue as possible.
