Avengers: Endgame Finally Beats Avatar as the Biggest Movie of All Time

Marvel has been gunning to beat Avatar for months now using Avengers: Endgame as the ammunition to take down the “biggest movie of all time” and this past weekend they finally did.

After a 22-movie arc that kicked off way back in 2008, Avengers: Endgame, the explosive finale officially surpassed Avatar as the highest-grossing movie of all time beating its closest competitor by around $500,000.

Marvel president Kevin Feige made the announcement at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend saying; “Thanks to you, Avengers: Endgame is the biggest film of all-time”.

This push in revenue was helped by the re-released version of Avengers: Endgame that returned to cinemas on 28 June with a few extra snippets for viewers to enjoys. It contained deleted scenes and a different opening starring the late Stan Lee.

This “different” version of the film helped Avengers: Endgame make that extra push in order to beat Avatar as the films were neck and neck in revenue at one stage. This is clearly still the case as Endgame is a mere $500,000 over Avatar.

Before the film returned to cinemas, Endgame was sitting at $37 million away from toppling Avatar and while Endgame did well in the US on the weekend it returned, much of its revenue came from outside of the US.

Regardless of how Marvel did it, Avengers: Endgame is now the biggest movie of all time and it is well deserved. The campaign to topple the previous king of the charts saw Marvel and its fans team up worldwide to watch the 3-hour long film again even if it was for the fourth time.

In other Marvel news, the company revealed its plans for the Phase 4 of its film calendar including Black Widow, Blade, Doctor Strange 2, and Thor 4. You can read all about the future of Marvel films here.
