Avowed, the next highly anticipated RPG from The Outer Worlds developer Obsidian Entertainment, received a new gameplay trailer during last night’s Xbox Games Showcase. The game, which has since been compared to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, features first-person combat involving melee weapons, magic and powerful bursts of spells. Along with the gameplay trailer, Obsidian and Xbox also revealed that Avowed has a 2024 release window.
Avowed is the next game from Obsidian Entertainment, the developers behind Fallout: New Vegas, The Outer Worlds and Pentiment. Set in a stunning new fantasy world of the Living Lands, Avowed tells the story of a plague that has swept through the kingdom which is causing havoc. It’s up to you, a wandering hero, to get to the bottom of the plague and uncover secrets along the way.

Xbox provided a description of Avowed‘s story:
“Welcome to the Living Lands, a mysterious island filled with adventure and danger. You are the envoy of Aedyr sent to investigate rumors of a spreading plague. While there, you discover a personal connection to the region itself and an ancient secret that threatens to destroy everything. Can you save the island and your soul from the forces threatening to tear them apart?”
Details are still a bit scarce about the game but from what we can tell, gameplay will revolve around using an assortment of deadly spells, close-range weapons and more to battle foes that take the shapes of skeleton warriors, beasts and soldiers. Fans hoped to see more of the RPG elements showcased in the gameplay, though we’ll just have to wait a little while longer to learn more about the game’s mechanics and details.
Avowed is set to release sometime in 2024 for Xbox Series X/S and PC. It will also be available day one on Xbox Game Pass. Check out the first gameplay trailer below:
