Avowed Has More Than Ten Different Endings Says Obsidian

Obsidian Entertainment says its upcoming RPG, Avowed, has more than ten different endings. It’s become common for massive RPG titles to have multiple endings if one of the primary gameplay elements is making decisions that ultimately changes how the story plays out. Avowed in one such role-playing game that leans heavily into the decision-making systems that Obsidian is known for.

Speaking to IGN in a recent interview, Avowed‘s game director Carrie Patel was asked how many endings will be present at launch. “That’s very hard to say,” she responded. “I can tell you our ending slides number in the double digits, you can end up with a lot of different combinations of them… Your ending really is the sum total of your choices across the game.”

Patel is referring to ending slides that developers use to showcase what happened to the player character and other NPCs as one of many possible endings to the story. Obsidian famously used multiple slides for its endings to Fallout: New Vegas, for example, which showed the epilogue of characters you met in the world and how your decisions along the way shaped the narrative’s outcome. It’s an effective way to give players the satisfaction of experiencing unique endings, especially if developers don’t have the resources to fully animate all of those endings.

Avowed is shaping up to be one of 2025’s most compelling role-playing games. Obsidian Entertainment previously revealed that there will be no romance options in the game. The studio explained that it takes a lot of effort to create convincing romances in games, especially if the time is better spent rather building friendly relationships with companions. Fallout: New Vegas kind of had romance but it was criticised for feeling half-baked. Obsidian removed romances altogether in The Outer Worlds and it looks like the studio is avoiding it again with Avowed.

Avowed launches on 18 February 2025 for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
