Avowed Obsidian Dual-Wield Wands Gameplay Combat

Avowed Includes “Up to 60FPS” Mode on Xbox Series X

Obsidian has confirmed that Avowed ships with a 60FPS mode on Xbox Series X. The RPG, which is expected to launch for early access pre-orders next week, was originally pegged as a 30FPS game back in 2024. Art director Matt Hansen claimed that Obsidian targeted 30FPS for Avowed as it was a single-player game and the studio felt as if players didn’t need 60FPS.

As a result of this, Avowed originally featured improved visual fidelity with “juicier VFX and lighting”. Hensen claimed at the time that Obsidian decided to stick to 30FPS quite early in development, saying;

“It’s a trade-off we opted to make relatively early, and we’re really happy with that. The game’s running pretty smooth for, you know, how visually dense it is, and that was always our goal.”

However, that has since changed. According to Avowed game director Carrie Patel, the game will launch with an option of ‘up to 60FPS’ for those who want more frames. Patel didn’t share any details on the exact frame rate for Avowed, but the new performance mode will likely make fans happy.

Of course, the “up to 60FPS” mode won’t be available on Xbox Series S. The weaker console will likely be stuck at 30FPS. With Avowed launching next week, it will be interesting to see how adaptable the game is for the Xbox hardware and PC.
