Avowed, the latest action-RPG from Fallout: New Vegas and The Outer Worlds developer Obsidian Entertainment, is out right now on Xbox and PC. At launch, the game was often compared to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in a few ways while other fans protested this comparison. It turns out that Obsidian Entertainment did pay homage to Skyrim in the game after all, as players recently discovered an Easter egg that pokes fun at everyone’s favourite companion NPC, Lydia.
Lydia is the first companion that you’ll likely meet on your adventure in Skyrim. One of her famous repeated lines is “I am sworn you carry your burdens”, almost comically so considering how often she says it. Avowed decided to poke a little bit of fun at Lydia, inserting a Skyrim Easter egg into the game in the form of a particular item called The Packmule’s Burden.
The ring, which gives you a +25 carry capacity, reads:
This ring was commissioned by the disgruntled squire of a knight from a minor noble house. The squire, tired of being weighed down by the oath that he was “sworn to carry the burdens” of his knight, saved up every scrap of coin he earned until he was able to pay a wizard to enchant this ring for him. Unfortunately, once the knight noticed that her squire was seemingly able to carry yet more of her possessions, he was forced to do just that. Such is the life of those born to serve.
This is obviously a reference to Lydia from Skyrim, especially since it mentions a squire “sworn to carry the burdens” of his knight aka The Last Dragonborn.
