Back 4 Blood is launching on 12 October 2021 and so far we have seen a lot of the PvE co-op modes. However, the game includes its own robust PvP mode where players can take on the role of a Ridden and troll their friends by using all the abilities available. The Back for Blood PvP Swarm mode seems to offer a unique gameplay approach.
Swarm mode sees two squads of four face off against each other in a best-of-three series of rounds. Players will swap between playing as the Cleaners (the people) and the Ridden (the crazed mutated creatures). Each team earns points depending on how long they stay alive. The longer you endure the Ridden attack, the more points you earn.

WB Games says that players earn points based on how long the Cleaners are able to stay alive and endure the Ridden attacks. A typical match sees not only the other player-controlled Ridden swarming you but AI bots too. The team that remains standing at the end also wins the round.
In the Back 4 Blood PvP Swarm mode, players can take on the role of any of the nine available Ridden. This includes Tallboy, Bruiser, Crusher, Reeker, Exploder, Retch, Stinger, Hocker and Stalker. Each Ridden in Back 4 Blood packs its own unique abilities that are upgradable as you earn mutations through match progress.
Keep in mind that the closed beta for Back 4 Blood is set to kick off on 5 August and run until 9 August 2021. The beta is currently closed to pre-order players only but gamers can register here for a chance to get access to the early testing phase without the need to pre-order. WB Games does state that registration does not guarantee a spot into the closed beta.
The Back 4 Blood open beta then kicks off on 12-16 August for all players. All beta tests are taking place on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Check out the Back 4 Blood PvP Swarm mode trailer down below.
