Balan Wonderworld marks the first time the two creators have worked together since they created Sonic. Yuji Naka is directing the game while Naoto Ohshima is behind the character design. Naoto was the man responsible for creating Sonic and Dr Eggman. The game is set in a world called “Wonderland” and is inspired by theatre. Players take on the role of either a male or female protagonist as they are whisked away on a magical adventure during a dark period of their lives.
Gameplay seems to merge Mario and Sonic together as players equip costumes that all feature unique abilities. There are epic boss fights, large exploration hubs to discover and even musical numbers to dance to. In addition, the game is upbeat and colourful and seems to touch on mental health issues to some degree too.
Its the first game to come from the new studio “Balan Company”. The official description reads;

As the star of the show you can use powers from 80 different costumes while exploring labyrinth stages, filled with a myriad of tricks and traps to get to the heart of each story. As you journey through this land between fantasy and reality, you must find a way to bring balance to others and yourself. [/perfectpullquote]
