Balatro, the award-winning deck-building roguelike poker game, is now available on Xbox Game Pass for console and PC. Its arrival is also marked by the free Friends of Jimbo 4 update which adds crossovers from a selection of different games including Fallout, Assassin’s Creed and Civilization VII, among others.
Players on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC can get their hands on Balatro right now via Xbox Game Pass and experience one of the best games of 2024. At last year’s The Game Awards, it managed to sweep up Best Mobile Game, Best Debut Indie Game and Best Indie Game. As long as you have an active Game Pass subscription on any of those platforms, Balatro will be available to download at a reasonably low file size.
The free Friends of Jimbo 4 update arrives just in time for Xbox Game Pass players to customise their decks with themed cards based on the following franchises and games:
- Assassin’s Creed
- Bugsnax
- Critical Role
- Dead by Daylight
- Rust
- Sid Meier’s Civilization VII
- Slay the Princess
- Vault-Tec
“With Friends of Jimbo 4, Balatro’s ever-growing roster of crossovers expands even further, offering players more ways to tweak their decks, break the game, and chase the perfect run. The free Friends of Jimbo update is available to all Balatro players on all platforms later today,” reads the official description. “LocalThunk is also working on the first major update, which is aiming to add exciting new content to Balatro later this year.”
In related news, LocalThunk announced last month that Balatro had sold 5 million copies worldwide – a massive milestone for an indie game. This was no doubt helped by the exposure the game received thanks to its several nominations at The Game Awards where it was pitted against Astro Bot, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and others in the Game of the Year category.
