Balatro, the award-winning roguelike deck-building poker game from one-man developer LocalThunk, has sold over 5 million copies across consoles, PC and mobile. The creator has also urged players to buy more indie games, showing his support for the indie gaming scene.
Last month, LocalThunk revealed that Balatro had sold 3.5 million copies across all platforms. However, thanks to its surge in popularity at The Game Awards after receiving several nominations including top honours in the Game of the Year category, sales seemed to have spiked another 1.5 million copies. Altogether, Balatro has now sold 5 million copies worldwide, making it one of the highest-selling indie games released in recent memory.
“The last few weeks have been pretty wild,” said the official Balatro X account. “To everyone who picked up Balatro after seeing it at [The Game Awards], we hope you’re having an amazing time with it! If this is your first time picking up an indie title, try to make it a habit! There’s some amazing stuff out there!”
