If you’re playing Baldur’s Gate 3 and wonder why the game’s companions are so aggressively horny for you, don’t worry because developer Larian Studios says it’s a bug. The RPG allows players to form relationships with its various companions and even take things further with romance and sex. However, when building these relationships, you typically have to choose the correct dialogue to woo them. The only problem is, some of them came off extra horny for many players in the early stages.
Speaking to TheGamer in a recent interview, Larian Studios confirmed that some companions tended to be too horny too soon, citing this issue as a bug. The smooth-talking wizard Gale is probably the biggest culprit who begins suggesting fun times at camp moments after you pull him out of his portal. The same can be said about the fiery Tiefling barbarian Karlach, who is strangely urgent about smacking lips with you.

Game director Swen Vincke said that the companions’ “approval thresholds” was initially set too low, meaning they showed an interest in having sex much sooner than expected. “That’s why they were so horny in the beginning,” said Vincke.
Larian Studios has since fixed this issue for some companions but not for others, so you’ll just have to find out for yourself which ones appear to be unnaturally forward with you. As Vincke pointed out, relationships in Baldur’s Gate 3 were meant to simulate forming relationships in real life, which takes a lot more bonding than just a few lines of dialogue. “There were a lot of people that enjoyed it. But it was too fast,” said Vincke. “It was supposed to simulate how real relationships are.”
Vincke added that acting this way in real life would definitely be “problematic” and we agree with him. This could be good or bad news depending on how much you enjoyed utilising the bug in the game.
In related news, Baldur’s Gate 3 officially launches on PS5 tomorrow but it might have frame rate problems. Playing the game in performance mode doesn’t always yield a consistent 60FPS while quality mode bounces around 25-30FPS with notable dips. Make sure you also read up on the PS5 trophy list and download size.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently available on PC and launches on PS5 on 6 September 2023. An Xbox release is also expected this year but Larian Studios haven’t nailed it down yet.
