Baldur's Gate 3 70 Million Mod Downloads Larian Studios

Baldur’s Gate 3 Had 70 Million Mod Downloads in Just 3 Months

Larian Studios officially added mod support to Baldur’s Gate 3 with patch 7 back in September (or October, if you’re playing on consoles). Since then, over 70 million mod downloads have been recorded by the developer from its 3,000 mods currently available in the game – all this over a span of just three months. The studio also revealed that it plans to continue to support mods for the foreseeable future.

Larian Studios posted a new Steam update briefly talking about mods in Baldur’s Gate 3. A recent hotfix on consoles limited the amount of mods players could install to just 100, mainly in an attempt to make the game more stable for players. The developer stated that it has completed over 70 million mod downloads on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, which is tremendous and certainly a factor in the game’s increased player count this year.

“Like an aged mentor in an inspiring 1980s film montage, we’re filled with pride seeing all the mods you’ve been crafting and using since the release of our official mod tools in September,” said Larian in the Steam update, adding:

“While we’ll be wrapping up our feature-heavy updates for Baldur’s Gate 3 soon, this is not yet the end for our mod tools. With the continued support of mod authors in the community testing out new features, we have big updates still to come — including adding even more functionality to let you tell your own stories.”

Larian Studios isn’t done yet as it just announced patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3 which will arrive in early 2025. The massive update will add some long-requested features such as crossplay across all platforms and a photo mode. To add more content to a game already stuffed to the brim with things to do, Larian also announced 12 new subclasses will be added with patch 8 – many of which are fan-favourite classes among Dungeons & Dragons players like the Shadow Magic Sorcerer and Circle of Stars Druid.
