Baldur’s Gate 3 is Finally Getting Split-Screen Co-Op on Xbox Series S

Larian Studios has announced that with the arrival of Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 8, which adds 12 new subclasses as well as photo mode and additional features, Xbox Series S players will finally get to try out split-screen co-op. The game initially launched on PC before making its way to PS5 and later, the Xbox Series consoles. However, due to what many assumed at the time was hardware limitations, Larian Studios revealed that Series S would not feature the RPG’s couch multiplayer experience.

That’s all changed now as players trying out the patch 8 stress test for Baldur’s Gate 3 have discovered a surprise: there’s now split-screen co-op available for Xbox Series S. Of course, it’s only limited to players experiencing the current stress test but once the patch officially becomes available in the near future, it will likely add the split-screen co-op feature to Series S.

Apart from a wealth of mods on console and PC ensuring that Baldur’s Gate 3 has quite a bit of longevity in the vein of Skyrim, Larian Studios is also adding 12 new subclasses in the next patch to give players even more reasons to replay 2023’s Game of the Year winner. A long-requested photo mode will also be added for times when you want to take group photos with your wandering batch of weird and wonderful tadpole-infected companions.

Larian’s continued support of Baldur’s Gate 3 post-launch as proven incredibly successful. Last year, it was reported that the game was even more popular in 2024 than it was at launch the previous year, showing a growing fanbase and a lot of interest in the RPG, especially with the inclusion of mod support on consoles (something that rarely happens outside of Bethesda’s titles).

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Larian has yet to set a date for the arrival of patch 8, though a lucky few are currently able to access the new content via a stress test.
