Baldur’s Gate 3 has climbed up the Steam charts to become the platform’s second-biggest launch of 2023, trailing behind Hogwarts Legacy. The highly anticipated Dungeons & Dragons RPG received its full release yesterday on PC (with a PS5 release to follow in September), though it didn’t waste any time racking up an impressive amount of players.
According to GamesRadar, Baldur’s Gate 3 has amassed a current peak of 472,136 players at once, just 800 players shy of beating Bethesda’s most-played Steam game, Fallout 4. That number will surely be adjusted by the end of today and likely surpass Fallout 4‘s numbers. Unfortunately, it still pales in comparison to Hogwarts Legacy‘s enormous concurrent player peak of 879,308, though for an RPG that isn’t exactly a huge household name, that’s still incredible feat for Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3 still has a while to go before it can reach Steam’s most-played RPGs, with Cyberpunk 2077, New World and Elden Ring all floating around the one million concurrent peak mark.
As of writing, the game’s recent reviews on Steam are Overwhelmingly Positive. We should begin to see more reviews from websites pop up in the coming weeks to figure out if Larian Studios’ latest RPG might be in the running for Game of the Year. Alternatively, you can also try it for yourself. Some may have to wait for the PS5 version to drop on 6 September, though.
The official description for Baldur’s Gate 3 reads:
“Gather your party and return to the Forgotten Realms in a tale of fellowship and betrayal, sacrifice and survival, and the lure of absolute power. Mysterious abilities are awakening inside you, drawn from a mind flayer parasite planted in your brain. Resist, and turn darkness against itself. Or embrace corruption, and become ultimate evil. From the creators of Divinity: Original Sin 2 comes a next-generation RPG, set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently available for PC.
