Baldur’s Gate 3 has taken the gaming world by storm recently, surpassing the high review scores for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in addition to becoming Steam’s second-biggest launch of 2023. Needless to say, players are loving the RPG but one criticism being thrown around is the inability to change your character’s appearance mid-game after the initial character creation. Developer Larian Studios has addressed this issue, stating that it’s looking into implementing mid-game character customisation.
Taking to Twitter, Larian’s director of publishing Michael Douse revealed that something is “being cooked” for Baldur’s Gate 3 in regards to changing your character’s appearance mid-game. It’s a highly-requested feature from fans who weren’t too happy about the design of their custom characters in the game, many of which didn’t like the way certain hairstyles or physical attributes looked in cutscenes.

While not all RPGs allow players to change the appearances of their custom characters after the character creation menu in the beginning, many have since implemented this feature such as Cyberpunk 2077, which came in a later update. If the player character is present in a lot of cutscenes like Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s understandable that fans would want an option to tweak their look if they aren’t happy with the results. We can probably expect this update to arrive in Larian’s RPG very soon. On the bright side, PC mods already allow you to do this – along with increase your character’s shlong size.
Despite only launching on PC earlier this month, Baldur’s Gate 3 has attracted the interest of PlayStation players ahead of its PS5 launch next month, resulting in an increase in pre-orders on Sony’s console. Unfortunately, Larian Studios is still wrestling with getting co-op to function properly on Xbox Series S, resulting in the game being delayed on Xbox consoles.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently available on PC with a PS5 release set for 6 September. If you’re new to the game, read our handy beginner’s guide as well as which classes are the best and worst to start with.
