Larian Studios has made an oopsie and accidentally released the highly anticipated Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 8 early on PS5. While the update has since been reverted, some players who managed to download the patch and disconnect from the internet straight after have been experiencing the latest batch of content in the game including 12 new subclasses and a photo mode.
Larian Studios explained on X that it accidentally launched patch 8 of Baldur’s Gate 3 early on PS5. We can confirm this as the update was downloaded in its entirety around 6PM South African time, giving players complete access to the 12 new subclasses in the game as well as other features present in the patch. Realising its mistake, Larian quickly reverted the update for PS5 players, now making the patch content inaccessible.
“No, the Patch 8 stress test hasn’t yet begun,” said Larian Studios. “Yes, PS5 players do currently have access to Patch 8. While we work with our partners to understand what’s going on, please note that any new saves made while on Patch 8 will not be compatible with Patch 7. How’s your Monday going?”

Of course, some smart players found workarounds for the reversion. If you downloaded the patch and immediately disconnected from the internet, then you could technically access all the new content without Larian applying the fix. The other problem is patch 8 has yet to actually go through its stress tests which players could sign up for last week, meaning a lot of the new content is also untested for Larian to adjust and fix before its official release.
Larian is also encouraging players to uninstall and reinstall Baldur’s Gate 3 in order to return the game to patch 7, as patch 8 could potentially break save games in its current state.
