Baldur’s Gate 3 PS5 Crashes Being Investigated by Larian Studios

Baldur’s Gate 3 players on PS5 recently began voicing their frustrations over constant crashes when trying to load into the game. According to developer Larian Studios, the issue seems to stem from a problem on the PSN and it’s currently being investigated. Thankfully, the developer also revealed a workaround to play the game without worrying about crashes.

Larian Studios posted an update via Baldur’s Gate 3 Twitter account confirming that several PS5 players might be experiencing difficulties playing the RPG. I’ve also experienced this issue, where the game crashes after trying to load a previous save file or even start a new game. Larian says it is currently investigating the PSN-related problem though it’s unclear when it will be fixed.

Luckily, if you’re struggling to play Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS5 and can’t load into the game, all you need to do is disconnect your console from the internet. This will let you play offline and it should load the game fine. Unfortunately, those who are playing in online co-op with friends will simply have to wait for a fix to arrive as the issue seems to be linked to the PSN.

Baldur’s Gate 3 launched on PS5 earlier this month, receiving praise for its intuitive console controls and UI adjustments. Digital Foundry ran a tech analysis and discovered that it basically runs on PS5 at PC’s ultra settings. Larian has since released several patches and hotfixes for the game including one that seemingly fixed Minthara’s romance, adding romantic dialogue options that were previously locked out due to a bug.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is now available for PS5 and PC. If you’re already familiar with the game’s companions, check out our ranking where we try to decide who is the best companion in the game.
