Larian Studios has revealed the preload schedule and release times for Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS5 ahead of its launch next month. The game launched on PC earlier this month to some of the highest review scores of 2023, passing the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Needless to say, PS5 players are in for a treat and now have an idea when to expect the game’s early and wide release.
Larian Studios recently confirmed that those who pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe Edition of Baldur’s Gate 3 will get early access to the game on 2 September, four days before its launch on 6 September and can begin preloading the game starting on 31 August. Meanwhile, standard edition players will be able to preload the game on 4 September and gain access on its usual release date.

Baldur’s Gate 3 shouldn’t have a problem securing a large PS5 player base as PlayStation pre-orders skyrocketed following the game’s launch and universally positive reception on PC. As of writing, it remains the second-biggest Steam launch of 2023, trailing just behind Hogwarts Legacy.
While install sizes vary depending on the platform, Baldur’s Gate 3 requires around 120 GB of free space on PC which should give PS5 players an indication of exactly how much free space they’ll need to download the game. It’s not exactly small but since most major releases now easily contain large download sizes, this fits the bill. That’s also taking into the account the staggering scope of Baldur’s Gate 3 which puts an average playtime somewhere between 40-50 hours if you’re only doing the main story.
In related news, Larian Studios recently told fans that it’s working on adding mid-game character customisation as players aren’t able to change their custom character’s look after the beginning of the game. PC players looking to transition to PS5 will also be glad to know that Baldur’s Gate 3 supports cross-save, so you can carry your progress with you over to console.
