Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios has confirmed that it’s working on two new projects based on its own IPs. The studio also reiterated that it has no plans to develop expansions for Baldur’s Gate 3 or work on Baldur’s Gate 4 as it sets it’s sights on new endeavours. The news arrives as part of a community update with a message from CEO Swen Vinke discussing Larian’s future plans.
Last month, Larian Studios revealed that it won’t be developing major story DLC, expansions or a sequel to Baldur’s Gate 3 despite the game’s enormous success. Thanks to a recent community update, we now know the studio is working on two new projects based on its own IPs, which could mean a new Divinity: Original Sin game and more.
“As an independent studio since 1996, we value the freedom to follow our creativity wherever it leads,” said the studio. “In this case, after six years in the Forgotten Realms and much discussion and rumination, we’ve decided to seize this opportunity to develop our own IPs. We’re currently working on two new projects and we couldn’t be more excited about what the future has in store.”
The statement continues:
“It’s still early days – we’ll tell you more about those later down the line. But know that even as our focus turns to these new games, the sensibilities that brought you Baldur’s Gate 3 are alive and well here at the Larian castle. We’re fueled by the very same fire in our bellies, one that drives us to create immersive experiences shaped by your choices, and we can’t wait for you to join us on this next adventure.”
Vinke added to the statement, saying that he believes the new projects will be the studio’s best work to date. “I don’t know if we’re going to pull it off, but looking at our narrative, visual and gameplay plans, I think what we’re working on now will be our best work ever.”
The latest update for Baldur’s Gate 3 will introduce more evil endings for players who give into the Dark Urge or murderous Tav playthroughs.
