Baldur's Gate 3 New Evil Endings Larian Studios

Baldur’s Gate 3 Won’t Get Major Updates After Mod Support This September

Baldur’s Gate 3 will be winding down its major updates after it receives official mod support this September. Developer Larian Studios is working on its next project though the company expressed a desire to move onto new things, giving fans the final massive update with Patch 7 set to arrive in a few months.

As reported by Eurogamer, Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke spoke at the BAFTA’s An Evening With Baldur’s Gate 3 event stating that the team “really want to move forward and do new things” so players “will see the level of support diminished to really critical bug fixes.” The last major update the game will get will add mod support on all platforms – something that rarely happens on consoles unless you’re Bethesda.

Talking about the wind down of Baldur’s Gate 3 updates, Vincke stated:

“One of the big things for us, and the one that we’re really working towards now, is the ability for players to mod [Baldur’s Gate 3] themselves, because then they will be able to make their own things, and I think that will be the point where we’re going to say ‘ok, now it’s yours fully’. We’re working on our new thing, we’re super excited about the new games. We’re creative spirits also. We don’t want to keep on doing the same thing; we really want to move forward and do new things.”

Larian already made it clear back in March that it had no plans for Baldur’s Gate 3 DLC or a sequel. In fact, the studio confirmed that it’s already working on another IP that isn’t related to the Dungeons and Dragons universe, with some fans suspecting that Divinity: Original Sin 3 might be on the way.

The good news is major updates for Baldur’s Gate 3 will go out with a bang as console players will receive mod support that will give them access to a bunch of mods that enhance the experience even further, giving it more replayability than ever before.
