Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox Release News Teased for This Week

Yesterday, Geoff Keighley officially announced the nominees for The Game Awards 2023 and it seems like Baldur’s Gate 3 and developer Larian Studios is leading the nominations including Game of the Year. Celebrating the news in a tweet, Larian gave a promising tease to fans looking forward to both the long-awaited Xbox release of the game as well as potential news on a physical release this week.

Speaking on Twitter/X about its nominations at The Game Awards, Larian Studios concluded its positive message by saying, “Xbox fans, and fans of physical media, watch this space for a formal announcement. It’s going to be a busy week.”

Larian announced earlier this year that it was working on an Xbox release for Baldur’s Gate 3, though apparently had some problems getting the RPG to run properly on Xbox Series S. As a result, the developer made the decision to completely remove split-screen multiplayer from the Series S release but it will still be present on Series X. Additionally, Larian also confirmed that the game will support cross-saves between PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles (as well as PC) through players’ Larian accounts.

The developer also insisted that an Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 was always on track to release before the end of the year and it looks like we might get news about it sometime this week, according to the tweet.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently up for eight nominations at The Game Awards:

  • Game of the Year
  • Best Game Direction
  • Best Narrative
  • Best Score And Music
  • Best Performance (Neil Newbon as Astarion)
