Very little is known about the upcoming Meta Quest 3 exclusive game, Batman Arkham Shadow. The VR game was announced last month with gameplay expected at Summer Game Fest this weekend. However, the ESRB listing for Batman Arkham Shadow has been spotted online and it confirms new details.
By the sound of things, Batman Arkham Shadow will be a robust Batman game and include crime investigations, melee and stealth combat. The ESRB listing also mentions some foul language and other violent themes. For example, the game includes blood and depictions of pain through cries and facial expressions.
When it comes to combat, Batman Arkham Shadow will let players choke enemies from behind when taking them down silently. You’ll be able to grab enemies and choke them. Players will also use punches and kicks to defeat enemies in melee combat. The description also confirms Batman Arkham Shadow is played from a first-person perspective.
This is a VR action-adventure game in which players assume the role of Batman as he investigates a mysterious cult harming Gotham City. From a first-person perspective, players traverse the city while examining crime scenes, completing undercover missions, and battling enemies (e.g., cultists, thugs, police officers). Players engage in melee-style combat using punches and kicks to defeat enemies; players can also silently take down enemies by grabbing and choking them from behind. Combat can be frenetic at times, accompanied by light effects, impact sounds, and cries of pain. Some areas depict small bloodstains on the ground; a cutscene depicts a character stabbed in the hand, with an accompanying blood-splatter effect. The word “sh*t” appears in the game, and one character holds up a raised middle finger.
Batman Arkham Shadow is in development at Oculus Studios’ Camouflaj division. The studio brought us games such as Republique and Iron Man VR. The studio says the upcoming Quest 3 exclusive is the largest title they have worked on to date.
