Battlefield 2042 AI Bots Will Be “Really Hard” To Tell Apart From Human Players

We know that Battlefield 2042 will rely on using AI bots to fill up matches and servers throughout the experience. DICE has confirmed that the game might have up to 64 AI bots in a game at any given time and will slowly rotate out as players join into the match. We also know that the Battlefield 2042 AI bots don’t mean the game is playable in an offline mode. You still need internet. However, DICE has now confirmed that the bots are actually quite tough to compete against so you might as well play with friends while you’re at it.

Talking about the AI difficulty in Battlefield 2042, Ripple Effect Studios’ design director Justin Wiebte, who is helping co-develop the game, says that players are going to have a really hard time telling the AI bots apart from real players.

Wiebte says that the studio has put a lot of effort into the AI bots in Battlefield 2042. In addition, the studio has coded and created them to play and act just as other players would. They not only react to your movements and actions but also have a mind of their own. He says:

We’ve tried to put a lot of effort into making them play just like a player would. So it would be really hard for people to tell the difference between an AI and a real human player because they will run around, they will drive vehicles, they will pick each other up, they will drop [each other] off at objective locations and things like that – it’s a very intelligent system. And then you can tweak and tune some of the things they are and aren’t allowed to do, including how difficult they are to play against.

While these bots sound great on paper, we are going to have to wait and see how they actually turn out. We also know that the Battlefield 2042 AI bots cannot use Specialities and Traits so they are also limited in the way they perform. Still, if these bots can run around next to me and kill players trying to flank my backside then I am ready for it.
