EA kicked off its closed Battlefield 2042 playtest this past weekend and while things were smooth at first, on Saturday the company was forced to shut down the PS5 version due to a “critical issue”. According to DICE’s community manager Adam Freeman, the Battlefield 2042 PS5 playtest contained a critical issue that forced the development team to halt testing on the PS5 until further notice. At the time of writing, the client is still offline for PS5. EA has since sent out additional Xbox invites to EA Playtesters in order to manage the drop in play count.
EA says that they are continuing to monitor the Battlefield 2042 PS5 client ahead of the cross-play test this weekend. However, they have not announced whether or not PS5 owners with the invite are able to participate in the next wave of testing yet.
Some good news has come out of the Battlefield 2042 playtest. EA says that the past weekend helped the studio test out the online services while also stress-testing the closed network. The company says that the first 48 hours of the test went smoothly and the data captured from the event is extremely useful.
EA has also warned against leaking and sharing your Battlefield 2042 gameplay experience. The current playtest is locked behind an NDA. However, that has not prevented users from uploading gameplay from the test. According to EA, leakers could see themselves perma-banned from the full game if they continue to share the footage.
Adam Freeman revealed that EA are currently issuing strikes and takedown notices across the internet on those who have shared the gameplay. Freeman also claims that breaking the rules and agreement of the NDA might result in loss of access to not only the current playtest but also the full release of Battlefield 2042 later this year.
Whether or not EA will permanently ban players from the full release is unclear but maybe don’t share your gameplay for now.
