Battlefield 2042 Review - Shallow Warfare

Battlefield 2042 Season 1 Includes One New Map and Specialist

Those of you waiting to jump back into Battlefield 2042 when the first season of content drops will be sad to hear that DICE only plans on adding one new map to the game. The first season of Battlefield 2042 is scheduled to launch in June, a mere seven months after the game’s debut back in 2021.

According to Battlefield Community Manager Straatford87, Battlefield 2042 Season 1 will only include one new map. However, players can expect changes to another already-in-game map as DICE plans on overhauling each and every location already in the game in an attempt to improve the game’s combat flow.

DICE revealed last month that the developer is working on new ways to make the Battlefield 2042 map experience better. This includes adding new assets to the maps and making them feel less “flat and open”. This is a common issue across all maps in the game. They all have large open spaces with very little cover and lack interesting points of interest.

DICE confirmed that Kaleidoscope is the first map that will be overhauled. They call it “reintroducing” the map into the game.

We’re also looking to ensure that where we need to, we’re able to bring some of our launch maps up to our revised standard of quality, focusing first on the reintroduction of Kaleidoscope. As shared in our Core Feedback loop last month, we’ve revised the playspace to add more cover, creating new flag positions, and improved the flow across the whole map.

DICE confirmed that some classic weapons players can find in the Portal mode will also be making their way to the main game modes in Season 1. Players will soon be able to use them in the All-Out Warfare mode instead of being locked into equipping them only in Battlefield Portal.

There’s also a new Specialist arriving in Season 1 as well as the launch of the game’s Battle Pass. Keep in mind that this first season is part of four upcoming seasons. Let’s just hope we don’t have to wait eight months in-between each of them to see what happens.

Season 1 will launch next month, and will mark the start of a year of new content coming to the game. Four Seasons, four New Specialists, new maps, and new weapons and gadgets that help to expand the sandbox. We’re bringing a Battle Pass to Battlefield for the first time that will give players the chance to earn new gameplay items, all of which are on our free tiers, and new cosmetic items across both the free and premium tiers.

Next month with the release of Season 1 we’ll see a big update that will not only bring this new content to the game, but also deliver new Quality of Life enhancements, fixes, and improvements that demonstrate our continued commitment to Battlefield 2042 and our mission of restoring the trust that many of you feel was hurt when we launched back in November of last year.
