An age rating for Bayonetta 3 has appeared on Nintendo’s US website via the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), suggesting that a release date might be on the horizon. This comes in light of a previous leak that claimed the Nintendo Switch exclusive action title would release on 28 October 2022.
As spotted by Twitter user The_Marmolade, Nintendo’s US website now lists the game has having an M rating by the ESRB, which lists it as containing violence, blood and gore, partial nudity, strong language and in-game purchases. Fans believe that a release date announcement could be imminent, igniting hopes for a 2022 launch.

Last month, a leaker, who accurately predicted Mario Kart 8 DLC and Advanced Wars being delayed, claimed that Bayonetta 3 would launch on 28 October 2022. Nintendo hasn’t provided an official release window yet, but the ESRB rating aligns with the leak’s proposed date which could be accurate.
In addition to the ESRB, Bayonetta 3 also received an 18 rating from PEGI, according to Nintendo’s UK site. It’s also worth noting that if you try and search for Bayonetta 3 on the ESRB and PEGI websites, it’s not yet listed.
Bayonetta 3 reappeared in September 2021 during a Nintendo Direct event, after several years of silence since its announcement in 2017. The action title from Platinum Games remains one of the most anticipated upcoming Switch exclusives. If it does release this year, Nintendo will have a solid line-up of games including Xenoblade Chronicles 3 this month, Kirby’s Dream Buffet this summer and Pokemon Scarlet/Violet in November.
We recommend taking this news with a pinch of salt, but in the past, ratings usually meant that a game was close to completion and release. Nintendo will likely make an announcement in the coming weeks if this turns out to be true.
Bayonetta 3 is currently in development exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
