Ben Affleck to Return as Batman for Aquaman Sequel

Ben Affleck will once again don the cape and cowl for the upcoming Aquaman sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Lead actor Jason Momoa recently posted a photo of himself with Affleck on the set of the film currently undergoing reshoots, which confirms the star’s return as Batman.

As reported by Deadline, Momoa took to Instagram to upload a picture of himself with Affleck on the set of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom with the caption “REUNITED Bruce and Arthur.” Warner Bros. Pictures has yet to make any official announcement about Affleck’s return of the popular DC character, though fans can be assured that he’ll now be back in some capacity.

Affleck previously appeared in various DC movies during Warner Bros.’ attempt to set up the DCEU, including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Justice League and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. He was originally set to star in his own solo movie which would’ve seen Batman square off against Deathstroke, but Warner Bros. opted to reboot the Batman franchise instead as its own universe separated from the DCEU.

While Affleck didn’t get the chance to debut his solo Batman movie, this eventually led to The Batman starring Robert Pattinson as the new hero. The film, which released earlier this year, received mostly positive reviews for its gritty and grounded depiction of the comic book character.

For now, it’s unclear where Warner Bros. is going with its various DC adaptations. Both The Batman and Joker took place in detached universes from the DCEU, but the studio continues to push forward with films like The Flash, Shazam and Black Adam all still seemingly revolving around the DCEU.

That said, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will once again see Momoa return along with director James Wan. It’s set to release on 17 March 2023.
