Bethesda Reiterates Starfield Will Release in First Half of 2023

Bethesda has reiterated that its upcoming space RPG Starfield is still on track to release in the first half of 2023. The game was originally planned to launch in November last year but was delayed alongside Arkane Studios’ vampire-slaying action game Redfall to an unspecified date this year. However, a new Bethesda support site has indicated that Starfield is well on track to release for Xbox Series X/S and PC sometime in the next six months.

Twitter account StarfieldBeyond spotted a newly-launched support site for Bethesda which went live at the start of this month. One piece of information revealed on the site clearly states, “Starfield arrives exclusively on Xbox Series X/S and PC in the first half of 2023.”

Starfield‘s previous release date was 11 November 2022, but Bethesda delayed the anticipated RPG to this year in order to give the developers more time to polish the game and fix any potential bugs before launch. It’s believed that Microsoft will host a showcase very soon to announce the game’s new release date along with Redfall, both of which will be big exclusive releases for Xbox this year.

Developer Bethesda Game Studios is doubling down on the development of Starfield right now, but it also has The Elder Scrolls VI in the pre-production phase as of January last year. It’s unclear when the next major entry in The Elder Scrolls franchise will launch at this point as development cycles are becoming lengthier with each new AAA game, though fans believe that it might arrive no sooner than 2026 – a hefty goal given that the ambitious RPG will only have three years in full development from the time of Starfield‘s launch.

In related news, Starfield modders are already preparing to make several fixes to the game well before its release. The modding community is already quite familiar with the shortcomings of Bethesda’s Creation Engine (which Starfield is being built on), so some pre-emptive measures are already in place.

Starfield is currently in development for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
