Beyond Good and Evil 2 Targeting 2025 Release

It has been a while since Ubisoft announced Beyond Good and Evil 2. The game was originally showcased during the Ubisoft E3 2017 showcase and after the initial announcement, we received a look at the overall gameplay Ubisoft was aiming to achieve. The game features multiple planets to explore but the sheer freedom on offer is unlike anything the company has ever produced up to now.

With that being said, it is going to be a while before we get to play Beyond Good and Evil 2 as according to reports, Ubisoft is targeting a 2025 release date for the game. The news comes from well-sourced insider Tom Henderson who has spoken out on Twitter regarding the game after rumours of its cancellation appeared online.

During the weekend, Tom first tweeted that Beyond Good and Evil 2 was reportedly suffering from a development crisis. He claimed that his sources told him that the project was suffering from a lack of creative direction since the start of development. In addition, this rocky development was worsened by the departure of lead designer Michael Ancel in September 2020.

Ancel left Ubisoft after the most recent round of mismanagement reports and came under fire for being cruel to staff. Ancel reportedly called these allegations fake news and denied the reports. That aside, the ongoing misconduct investigation has reportedly affected the development of Beyond Good and Evil 2. So much so that even the staff working on the project claim that it might get cancelled any day now.

A few hours after posting the report of the game’s cancellation, Henderson then updated his tweet saying that a Ubisoft developer was in touch with him. According to this developer, Beyond Good and Evil 2 development is still going strong and Ubisoft is targeting a 2025 release date for the game.

At the moment it is a bit tough to trust what is going on. Even though the game is supposedly set to launch in 2025 does not mean that the development is going all that well. Perhaps Ubisoft is struggling to keep the cycle going on the game? Ubisoft has yet to comment on the rumours and I doubt they will have anything to say regarding the reports.
