BioWare Hit With Layoffs – Studio Has Less Than 100 Staff Now

EA has seemingly laid off around two dozen staff members at BioWare following the restructuring process that took place last week. At the time, there were only reports of layoffs at the studio; however, we can now confirm that the studio has been severely affected as a result of EA’s restructuring.

The confirmation comes from Bloomberg, who says that around “two dozen” staff members have been laid off, and other people have been shifted to different projects at EA. The report claims that after EA shifted certain staff members around following the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the company has decided that these shifted staff members will not return to the studio.

The impacted staff include members of BioWare who had been “loaned out” to other projects as well as staff who were given temporary roles at other studios.

BioWare’s latest studio update suggested that over 200 people were part of the team two years ago. Last week, GM Gary McKay claimed that the “core team” at BioWare was now focusing on Mass Effect; however, the game was originally announced over four years ago. So it seems not much development has been happening while Dragon Age: The Veilguard took priority.

BioWare now has less than 100 staff members at the studio. However, McKay claims that a “core team” is developing the next Mass Effect game.

EA confirmed during its latest 2025 fiscal year earnings report that Dragon Age and EA Sports FC didn’t perform as expected in the past few months. EA claimed that Dragon Age only engaged with about half of the expected players. The studio didn’t say how well EA Sports FC has done.
