Another day, another set of legal drama for gaming publisher, Activision Blizzard. The publisher behind the popular game, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is being sued by professional wrestler, Booker T Huffman. The lawsuit focuses on a Black Ops 4 character, which Booker T is complaining Activision stole from his own creative work. The wrestler is claiming extensive visual similarities between the character created by himself and the Black Ops 4 character.

The copyright complaint filed by Booker T focuses on his comic book character called G.I. Bro, which the wrestler claims is visually similar to the Black Ops 4 character called David “Prophet” Wilkes. The complaint compares two pictures of the characters to each other, claiming that they are visually very similar and that Activision copied the wrestler’s character.

[Activision] could have drawn him any way they wanted. But they chose to steal Booker T’s G. I. Bro. There is no doubt that [Activision] copied G.I. Bro.

The wrestler goes on to claim that the gaming publisher has gained financially from the use of the copyrighted work and he is asking the court to order Activision to cease use of his work, or to pay him damages for copyright infringement. He claims there is no agreement in place between himself and Activision which gives the publisher the authority to use his copyrighted work.

This isn’t the first celebrity/relatively famous person to sue a gaming publisher over using their likeness for a video game. Epic Games’ popular battle royale game, Fortnite, regularly gets hit with copyright infringement complaints. People like Backpack Kid and Alfonso Ribiero from the French Prince franchise, have accused the game of stealing their dance moves. Lindsay Lohan’s complaint that a GTA V character looked like her, was famously shot down by a court.

Do you think Activision copied Booker T’s work?
