Bleeding Edge, Ninja Theory’s new IP, has officially been revealed. Bleeding Edge is a 4v4 online melee-focused action title that pits teams of four up against each other using a roster of colourful characters. They seem to be able to use a variety of explosive special abilities to string together combos. With an emphasis on melee combat, the title separates itself in the crowded multiplayer market. Ninja Theory have become quite well known for their fantastic action, as seen in Heavenly Sword, DmC: Devil May Cry and Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. In fact, DmC’s combat director, Rahni Tucker, is working on the title. Tucker is known for implementing the stylish, sleek combat present in the reboot, which translates well to Bleeding Edge.
The game takes plenty of inspiration from the likes of Anarchy Reigns. This is evident in its multiplayer-focused gameplay choices. Visually, the game is reminiscent of Borderlands with a hint of Overwatch in its character designs. However, it remains distinct thanks to the unique designs of each character. Sadly, not much was revealed in the short announcement trailer, but we assume that each character will fit into a specific class that complements the team. This opens the possibilities for plenty of useful strategies, apart from resorting to frantic combat.
In addition to the announcement trailer, Bleeding Edge will receive a technical alpha on June 27th. No official release date has been announced yet, but fans can look forward to getting their hands on Ninja Theory’s latest multiplayer brawler later this month.
