Years ago, Blizzard had a next-gen MMO, sort of like a sequel to World of Warcraft, in the works. It was called Project Titan and from it, Overwatch was born. Most Blizzard fans know that the developer isn’t afraid to can games before they get released, from that Thrall point-and-click adventure to Starcraft: Ghost and, of course, Project Titan.

The reason for the cancellation of Project Titan has always been a bit of a mystery and now, ex-Blizzard boss, Mike Morhaime, finally spoke out about why the game was cancelled in the first place. According to reports, Mr Morhaime spoke at GameLab in Barcelona, revealing that it was an extremely ambitious game and internally, the developer failed to control its sheer scope. Apparently, the game had time travel and focused on historical myths.
Mr Morhaime explained that:

Titan is an exception to that where we wanted it to be our next generation, our sequel to sort of World of Warcraft. We took a lot of our senior developers and put them on this project. And I think where we really failed was we failed to control scope. It was very ambitious.[/perfectpullquote]
As a Blizzard fan for two decades, I would have loved to see some footage or hear exactly what Project Titan was all about. However, there’s still some good news for fans, as there is a very good chance Blizzard will finally reveal Diablo 4 to the world at BlizzCon 2019.
