Blizzard Says No Overwatch 2 or Diablo 4 Release in 2021

It is going to be a bleak year ahead for Blizzard fans as the company has confirmed that its much anticipated Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 won’t release this year. During their earnings call this morning, Blizzard told its investors that it is not expected either game to be part of its 2021 financials in any way.

Technically, both of these games have not been delayed as they both never had a release date or window, to begin with. Overwatch 2 was announced back at BlizzCon in 2019 alongside Diablo 4. Both games served as some of the biggest announcements to ever come out of the studio. Overwatch 2, in particular, acted as the sequel to Blizzard’s popular PvP shooter and not only looks to expand the competitive platform but deliver a single-player campaign too.

Unfortunately, since its announcement back in 2019, Blizzard has given us the silent treatment when it comes to Overwatch 2. We have not seen or heard anything about the game. We don’t know how development is going and what is in store for the shooter. On the other hand, Blizzard has been quite transparent when it comes to Diablo IV. The developer shares quarterly updates with its fan base showcasing gameplay, UI, maps and more. Diablo IV is looking rather epic.

While the lack of a 2021 release date does not surprise us for Diablo 4, Overwatch 2 is kind of a surprise. You would think Blizzard had something big up its sleeve for the year ahead but that is not the case. Players will have to just sit and replay the original game while participating in the same seasonal events the game has had for over four years now.

Blizzard is set to host its annual BlizzCon event online this year which kicks off on 19 February 2021. Hopefully, the developer has an update on its current and new sleight of titles.
