Sony has taken down a popular fan-made 60FPS patch for Bloodborne, its 2015 fantasy action-RPG from developer From Software. Sony recently hit the patch’s original creator, Lance McDonald, with a DMCA notice to remove all links to the patch. The takedown was met with a bit of backlash from the community who are growing concerned that Sony has altogether abandoned any plans to remaster or update the game, despite increasingly high demands.
Lance McDonald created the Bloodborne patch that enabled players to play the action-RPG at 60FPS (it’s locked at 30FPS in its original state) on PS5. He provided an update this weekend confirming that Sony Interactive Entertainment had sent him a DMCA strike, asking him to take down the patch. While McDonald has removed all links to the patch, it’s still available to find online through other means, though it has now become significantly more difficult to search for it.
The 60FPS patch was first uploaded in February 2021, meaning it was available for four years. It’s bizarre for Sony to suddenly decide to take down the patch.
On February 21st, 2021, I created and released a patch for Bloodborne which makes the game run at 60fps. Today I received a DMCA takedown notification on behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment asking that I remove links to the patch I posted on the internet, so I’ve now done so

Some hopefuls have theorised that Sony might’ve taken down the patch to make way for an official announcement revealing a Bloodborne update or remaster, while others believe it’s Sony just being petty. We’ve covered all the highs and lows of Bloodborne rumours over the years, though nothing concrete has ever materialised from them. It’s uncertain if Sony will ever do something with the IP, which, according to many, remains one of the best games of the last generation.
