Borderlands 3 has been out for a year already. It is hard to believe that this time last year we were celebrating the launch of the game with a cool Collector’s Edition unboxing and review. Over the weekend, 2K Games announced a load of new features coming to the series including a fancy, and best of all free, next-gen upgrade. Borderlands 3 is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X and is free for current owners of the game.

We don’t know much about the upgrade at the moment. However, Gearbox claims that Borderlands 3 on PS5 and Xbox Series X will run at 4k 60FPS in single player. By the sounds of things, this may drop when joining multiplayer lobbies and the action gets a little crazy. It could be an adaptive frame rate or resolution which may go up and down depending on the intensity of the scene.
In addition to the Borderlands 3 PS5 and Xbox Series X versions, Gearbox announced that new skill trees are coming for each Vault Hunter. However, these won’t be free and users may have to purchase a new DLC pack to enjoy them. The developer revealed FL4K’s new “Trapper” tree that focuses on shields and survivability for FL4K and his pet.
The new tree also includes a Gravity Snare trap which lifts enemies into the air and slams them back down. In addition, there’s also a new Hyperion Loaderbot pet which can be upgraded to specialize in ranged attacks in an ION form, up-close melee as a BUL Loader or fiery explosions as a WAR Loader.
Gearbox also announced that cross-play, one of the most requested features, is coming to Borderlands 3 in early 2021. We can’t wait to see what other characters are going to pack in their skill trees and what DLC content is coming our way in the future.
