Gearbox is hosting a special Borderlands 3 “Celebration of Togetherness” stream today at 16:00 South African time and while we all thought it was to announce crossplay, it seems that it not the case.
Yesterday we reported on a possibility that crossplay could be coming to the game but Randy Pitchford, the game’s creator has debunked the reports saying today’s stream is “not” about cross-play.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]To be clear, there will not be any cross-play functionality in Borderlands 3 at launch as we work closely with our partners to create a positive cross-play experience as soon as practicable. We are committed to cross-play on as many platforms as possible.[/perfectpullquote]
Don’t feel defeated though. Randy went on to say the feature is still a possibility and it is something they will be interested in doing.
Some folks may be speculating that this thing tomorrow may be about cross play. Tomorrow’s thing is awesome, but *not* about cross-play. But, Good News: We are committed to supporting cross-play for Borderlands 3 with our partners as soon as practicable after launch. #talklater https://t.co/XtUzrBpySP

So what will the announcement be about today? Well, we have no idea now that the “togetherness” part of the event has been proved to be not-so-much-about-togetherness. The stream could simply be about the game’s co-op and feature some new gameplay about the four-player split-screen and online modes.
Perhaps Gearbox is announcing a PvP mode? Whatever they plan on doing, make sure you tune into the action on the official site at 4 PM today and watch it on YouTube. Borderlands 3 is set for release on 13 September 2019 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
