You can’t play Destiny 2 on Valve’s Steam Deck. At the moment, there’s no support for the game and Bungie doesn’t plan on making the shooter compatible with the portable gaming device any time soon. Bungie has also made it quite clear to Destiny 2 players that if they decide to bypass the incompatibility they will be banned.
The news comes from Bungie’s official Steam Deck and Destiny 2 FAQ page that specifically details the lack of support for the shooter on the handheld. On the page, it claims that Destiny 2 is not supported for play on the Steam Deck or any system utilizing Steam Play’s Proton unless Windows is installed and running.

The page goes on to further explain that anyone who attempts to launch Destiny 2 through SteamOS or Proton will be unable to enter the game and returned to the game library. However, Bungie has also made itself clear to those who try and bypass this “return to library” feature saying:
Players who attempt to bypass Destiny 2 incompatibility will be met with a game ban.
Sadly, Destiny 2 is only capable of running on Windows with Steam and Bungie has no plans whatsoever to release the game without the combination of the two. This means any sort of third-party hardware, like the Steam Deck, will be unable to run the game.
It is what it is at the moment and it doesn’t seem like it is going to change anytime soon. It is a bit of a hard pill to swallow especially given Destiny 2’s spectacular support for a controller. Even the PC version utilizes a controller pretty well.
Destiny 2 isn’t the only game that will not get any support for Steam Deck. Epic Games has also announced that Fortnite is not going to release on the handheld and there’s no plan to change that.
