Marathon is an upcoming extraction shooter from Destiny developer Bungie. We’ve heard very little about the game since its announcement last year, though new reports are now stirring and it’s not exactly good news. According to an investigative report from Bloomberg, Bungie fired the director of Marathon, Chris Barrett, back in March following an HR investigation that revealed he had allegedly sent at least eight female employees inappropriate text messages.
As revealed by Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, Chris Barrett, the former director of Marathon, was fired by Bungie after it was discovered that he had made unwanted advances on female employees at the company. Schreier stated that he “would text them frequently, make suggestive comments and ask to play truth-or-dare.” The anonymous female employees who spoke to Schreier said that they felt uncomfortable because of his position of power at Bungie.
Barrett would later be replaced by Joe Ziggler as the director of Marathon, several months before the investigation happened.

Bungie is still in hot water after the company laid off 220 staff earlier this month. Former employees began calling for CEO Pete Parsons to step down from his position in light of the mass layoffs. This follows a rather nasty report from October 2023 which claimed that over 100 staff members that were fired weren’t given a notice of their termination ahead of time. Employees allegedly showed up at work on the morning to find out that they were fired in an email.
Bungie was also accused of mismanaging funds such as purchasing expensive new headquarters – funds that could’ve potentially saved plenty of jobs.
