Bungie Marathon $40 Live Service

Bungie’s Marathon Reportedly Getting Full Reveal Next Week

Marathon, the upcoming sci-fi PvP extraction shooter from Destiny developer Bungie, is reportedly getting a full reveal next week. Bungie first debuted a cinematic trailer for the game back in May 2023 during a PlayStation showcase. Since then, Bungie has been quiet regarding news about its new project.

That silence will reportedly be broken next week. According to insider and journalist Jeff Grubb, Bungie and Sony are gearing up for a full reveal of Marathon which will take place sometime late next week. “Bungie is teasing Marathon,” Grubb said on his latest Game Mess Mornings podcast. “Next week, everybody. Late next week I think you’ll be able to see a lot more about Marathon at that point.” This probably won’t take the form of a PlayStation showcase or State of Play but rather Bungie’s own event.

In September 2024, reports surfaced that Bungie was considering pricing Marathon at $40. This seems to be a recurring price point for Sony’s first-party multiplayer titles as the ill-fated Concord was also priced at $40. We’ll only know closer to its release whether this plan is still in place.

The description for Marathon reads:

“Become a Runner in Bungie’s new sci-fi PvP extraction shooter. Compete for survival, riches, and renown in a world of evolving, persistent zones, where any run can lead to greatness. A massive ghost ship hangs in low orbit over a lost colony. The 30,000 souls who called this world home have disappeared without a trace. Strange signals hint at rumors of mysterious artifacts, long-dormant AI, and troves of untold riches. You are a cybernetic mercenary – a Runner – and your destination is Tau Ceti IV. You are one of many, working solo or with a crew, venturing into the unknown and facing the unimaginable in a fight for survival, for riches, for fame… and for infamy. Who among you will write their names across the stars?”

Marathon is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
