After Microsoft revealed new details for their Xbox Series X console yesterday, Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt RED announced that they will be offering free upgrades from the Xbox One version of the game to the Xbox Series X edition. Now, this is nothing new in gaming as we saw the last generation release do the same thing. Many games released on both PS3 and PS4 and developers offered an upgrade to the better, more enhanced versions of the game but for a price. Of course, CD Projekt RED being the great developers they are will be offering this next-gen console upgrade for free.
The studio revealed on Twitter that gamers should “Not be forced to purchase the same game twice” saying that gamers that purchase the Xbox One version of Cyberpunk 2077, will receive the Xbox Series X version upgrade for free;
Gamers should never be forced to purchase the same game twice or pay for upgrades. Owners of #Cyberpunk2077 for Xbox One will receive the Xbox Series X upgrade for free when available. https://t.co/nfkfFLj85w

This news also confirms once again that the game will indeed be headed to next-gen consoles and available on day one. We don’t know how Cyberpunk 2077 will run on the Xbox Series X or what enhancements the game will feature on the next-gen consoles but the idea of it is exciting already. While this “generational leap” is nothing new, it is nice to see CD Projekt RED offering a free upgrade in comparison to Ubisoft, Activision, and 2K Games charging gamers R200 for the PS3 to PS4 upgrade a couple of years ago,
