Call of Duty: Mobile released on 1 October 2019 on Android and iOS devices and it has been a massive, record-breaking success for publisher Activision and developer Tencent Games. Call of Duty: Mobile has been a big draw for fans of the franchise featuring iconic maps, characters and modes from past games. This has all led to the game being downloaded over 100 million times in its first week.
According to Sensor Tower (as reported by Reuters), Call of Duty: Mobile has seen the biggest video game mobile launch ever, beaking out the likes of PUBG (26.3 million), Fortnite (22.5 million) and even Apex Legends at 25 million. Mario Kart Tour which is, of course, is a completely different genre, managed a whopping 90 million downloads in its first week.
According to the report, the head of mobile insights at Sensor Tower, Randy Nelson, said that:
[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”#16EBD9″ class=”” size=”20″]This is by far the largest mobile game launch in history in terms of the player base that’s been built in the first week.[/perfectpullquote]
That’s an extremely impressive number, to say the least, especially with a rocky start for the game when players couldn’t connect at launch.
If you want to get in on what looks to be the next big thing in mobile gaming from Tencent Games, all you need to do is head on over to the Apple App Store or the Google PlayStore and start downloading the game, preferably over a Wi-Fi connection as the game is roughly 1.5gb in size.
Activision and Tencent plan to release additional free content for Call of Duty: Mobile via seasonal updates, adding game modes, items and more to the game which is a great way to support this highly successful title.
