Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was officially unveiled after months of leaks and rumours. Activision finally shed some light on the upcoming shooter during its Warzone event and we have a new trailer to watch and gameplay details.
First off, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is definitely a fully-fledged Call of Duty game that is going to cost you a full price tag too. The game features a single-player campaign that naturally follows the events of Modern Warfare 2.

The campaign introduces a new kind of mission called “open combat” that Activision describes as sandbox gameplay. Players can choose different play styles to approach these missions with. Be it guns blazing or perhaps sneaking into the mission under the shadows.
Activision says that while these missions feature a wide range of different approaches, they will still complement the well-crafted story missions the series is known for.
“Our vision to deliver back-to-back Modern Warfare games has been years in the making. From the start of development across both Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare III, Sledgehammer Games has worked closely with Infinity Ward to create a blockbuster sequel in the Modern Warfare series, featuring the return of iconic heroes and villains alike. Players will be able to grow closer to the characters, delve deeper into the storylines, and continue to build out progression and loadouts without interruption.”
When it comes to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 zombie mode, Activision describes it as the largest zombie experience in the series to date. It features an open-world PvE extraction survival approach where past zombie features combine with new mechanics. Activision will showcase the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 zombie mode separately in the months ahead.
As for the multiplayer component, the game will feature 16 maps with at least 12 new maps arriving after the game’s launch. Modes include hardpoint and kill confirm. There’s also a new 3v3v3 mode called cutthroat. Activision says Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer is tightly connected to Modern Warfare 2. Meaning you can transfer and carry over content to the new game.
For the first time in Call of Duty’s history, a vast amount of content from a previous Modern Warfare game will transfer — or “carry forward” — and be available in the next Modern Warfare title. All weapons and Operator content that has been previously unlocked or is currently available to players in Modern Warfare II, will carry forward between Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare III.
You can read all about the game on the official blog announcement here. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is launching on 10 November for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. It will launch on both the Battle.net launcher and Steam.
