Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Will Cost $70 Confirms Activision

Activision has confirmed that its recently announced shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will cost $70 when it releases this November. The company previously stated that this year’s entry will be a “premium” release and supposedly earns its price tag, though it’s unclear exactly how much content we can expect out of a game that reportedly started off as an expansion.

A spokeperson for Activision recently told CharlieIntel that Modern Warfare 3 will be a premium release and will be priced “accordingly” at $70. This wouldn’t seem out of the ordinary at face value as most AAA games have slowly gravitated towards pricing new games at $70. However, the game’s price tag is called into question when we consider an older report which claimed that Modern Warfare 3 actually began development as paid DLC for Modern Warfare 2.

That’s according to November 2022 comments from Bloomberg journalist and industry insider Jason Schreier, who originally claimed that this year’s Call of Duty entry would be an expansion to last year’s Modern Warfare 2. At some point, development plans might’ve shifted from an expansion to a full-fledged title developed by Sledgehammer Games. In terms of overall development time, this means that Modern Warfare 3 had considerably less time in the oven than the usual three-year cycle of dev time between Activision’s studios.

It’s understandable why fans are feeling a bit suspicious about the $70 price tag, especially if there are some concerns that Modern Warfare 3 might not contain enough content (or polished content) to justify the asking price. We’ll only know for certain when the game launches, though.

In related news, Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3‘s beta will arrive on PlayStation consoles first, though it will be the last year of Sony’s marketing deal with the franchise following Microsoft’s takeover of Activision Blizzard. Thankfully, it won’t be limited to current-gen hardware as PS4 and Xbox One players will also be able to play the new entry too.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launches on 10 November 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
