Activision announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, somewhat of a reboot of the sub-franchise, late last month. With the announcement came some very exciting news, from the fact that there will be no Season Pass to cross-play between PC and consoles for the upcoming title. When this happened, I had one big concern about the Modern Warfare cross-play, but it seems that concern was unwarranted.

There are very few gamers out there that will argue that mouse and keyboard is superior over a controller, especially when it comes to a first-person shooter game. Therefore, with Modern Warfare cross-play between PC and consoles, the PC player could very well have a big advantage; or so I thought.
According to a report by Forbes, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will matchmake players according to their input method, as Forbes calls the system “input matchmaking”. Therefore, everyone using a mouse and keyboard will be thrown into the same matches, while those using controllers will be thrown into different matches.
That is some great news for those who are worried that they will be at a disadvantage when it comes to their preferred input device. However, the question then is even though Modern Warfare will support cross-play between PC and console, how many PC and console players will actually meet in a match?
With that being said, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare cross-play sounds like the best possible way to do it when it comes to matching players with different input devices. The game releases on 25 October for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, and gamers will be able to play it together regardless of their gaming platform of choice.
