The file size for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is already quite big. We know it could hit almost 175GB on PC after the free DLC and updates are launched in the coming year and even the console counterparts are hefty too coming in at around 50GB for the PS4 and Xbox One version. It seems that if you are picking up the retail version of the game, your day one update is so big you might as well just splurge on the digital version and save yourself a trip to the store.

According to early reports, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare day one update is more than 40GB on the PS4 and around the same size as the Xbox One version. The update is mandatory and you will not be able to play it without downloading it.
Chances are, the update is actually not an update but the game itself as it was most likely not ready by the time the physical copies of the game shipped worldwide. Think of it as those PC games you buy that just have the code inside. The retail copies of Modern Warfare contain no actual data, rather, it has to be downloaded upon inserting the disc into your console.
We had the same situation last year with Black Ops 4 which makes the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare day one update no surprise. Those of you who purchased the BLOPS 4 retail edition had to download a 30GB and 23GB update file which was in turn, the entire game.
If you are looking to jump into the Modern Warfare action you will need to download this day one update first in order to do so. Plan accordingly and make sure you kick everyone off the internet at home while it downloads.
The game releases on 25 October for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
