Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Multiplayer to Support Up to 20 Players, No Zombie Mode

Activision is doing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer very differently this year. With no Season Pass, free DLC and cross-play support the game is almost like something brand new. The latest is the discovery of its matchmaking which has also seen a drastic change.

According to the PlayStation Store listing of the upcoming game, Modern Warfare multiplayer will feature a 20-player mode. Past traditional game modes focused on 6v6 and Ground War mode was capped at an 18-player lobby (nine each side).

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be pushing this limit up to 20 players which could mean there is a specific game mode that features 10 players per side or perhaps they are looking at increasing Team Deathmatch to 10v10.

Perhaps Modern Warfare will have a brand new mode that will make use of this bigger lobby or maybe the old game modes are being revived as larger matches.

Infinity Ward has also confirmed the game will not have a zombie mode this year. Speaking to PlayStation Lifestyle, they claim the game’s “realistic tone” will be ruined if zombies were added into the mix.

Because they focus on more of the stylised, graphic novel, super-hero experience, they can have the much more ‘out there’ different types of gameplay in their games.

But for us, we’re trying to create an authentic, realistic feeling world. We don’t have the flexibility to do something like put zombies in the game. That would compromise the feeling of playing in a world that feels realistic and authentic and relative to today’s conflicts and things we face.”

Replacing zombies is a co-op mode which the single-player mode goes directly into. Infinity Ward claims your progression from the single-player mode will carry over into co-op and the “events just continue” as does your progression.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare releases on 25 October 2019 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
